It doesn't get better than this!

I have a question:

Hand to God that’s one of the best baseball moments I’ve seen in a long time. Tyler Black is/was the top prospect in the Brewer system, and he got his first call up before last night’s game. His family apparently jetisoned a family vacation in Cancun in order to be at Am Fam last night, and as Sophia Minnaert was interviewing them, Tyler came to the plate. That allowed for Tyler’s dad, Rod Black, who called Blue Jays games from 1999-2009, to call his son’s base hit. “There’s a base hit to right field, for my boy, Tyler Black.” What a moment. Followed immediately by, “I think we’re gonna start drinking, heavily.” What a beauty!
Unfortunately that’s where the good vibes ended for the night, as the umpiring crew decided that the crowd paid to see them for a THIRD STRAIGHT Brewer game. During Sunday’s game, the umpiring crew should have called interference on Aaron Judge but didn’t (leading to a 7-run inning in a game that was tied at 4 before that moment), on Monday night the umpiring crew DID call interference on Jake Bauers in the 9th inning (which *MIGHT* have been the correct call, but cost the Brewers the game tying run in the 9th), and last night this happened:

I feel like I’m on crazy pills! In all of my baseball viewing life, I’ve never seen a pitcher get instantly tossed with no warning after hitting one batter. Now if you didn’t watch last night’s game, the guy Perlata hit was the guy who hit a home run off of him earlier in the game. But on a night where he was rolling, and the Brewers needed a starting pitcher to go deep (Freddy was only at 66 pitches when he got tossed), it feels impossible that he would do that on purpose in a 3-0 count in a 6-1 game. Particularily when you consider that Freddy Peralta had NEVER BEEN THROWN OUT OF A GAME IN HIS 8 YEAR CAREER before last night. But Crew Chief Chris Guccione somehow determined that he hit him on purpose and chucked him without even issuing a warning. “It’s Chris Guccione time.”- Chris Guccione
Cut to the 8th inning, Jose Siri is up to the plate again (the guy who hit a home run and got hit), he hits a grounder to 1st base, Abner Uribe covers the bag and Siri is out. Then Uribe and Siri start jawing which leads to an actual donnybrook!

I still say we need to find a way to teleport Jim Ross into these situations so he can start doing play-by-play. ‘BAH GAWD WE GOT A PIER 6 BRAWL!’
Anyway, Uribe got tossed and likely has a suspension coming. Meanwhile Guccione did talk to reporters about Peralta’s ejection after the game, I’ll spare you the TL;DR and give you this paraphrased version:
Reporter: Was there anything unusual about Siri’s home run celebration that would have led to him getting hit?
Guccione: No.
Reporter: Did you notice anything from Peralta that would indicate he was upset about the home run?
Guccione: No.
Reporter: Did you notice anything unusual about the first three pitches of the at bat before Siri got hit?
Guccione: No.
Reporter: So you can say with certainty that Peralta hit Siri on purpose even though there was zero evidence of bad blood leading up to it?
Guccione: Yes.
Reporter: Did you get enough attention as a child?
Guccione choking back tears: No……
Just a wild call and ejection from Guccione. The only explanation for this ramped up umpire behavior this season is that they can sense robot umps are coming and the only way to stay relevant is to thrust themselves into the middle of the action.
We’ll see what happens this afternoon but I’m guessing both teams get a warning before we even see a pitch. Odds for today are Brewers -1.5 runs and -350 that Pat Murphy manages his first full game since Saturday.
PS: All of this overshadowed one hell of a Bucks game last night. They played with high energy, hustle, they were connected defensively, and just out-worked the Pacers all night. Pat Bev changed the tone of the game with his effort in the 2nd quarter, Middleton was incredible again, and Bobby was locked in on both ends. Amazing what you can do when you don’t get tossed in the 1st quarter! Now what does this all mean? It means you get to play another game on Thursday. ALL of the pressure is going to be on Indiana in that game. Obviously we’re all hoping Dame and Giannis (even one or the other) will be able to return for Game 6, Vegas has set the line at Pacers -9 so it doesn’t feel likely that they will. But if last night’s team can play on Thursday the way they played in Game 5, they’ve got a chance to win regardless of Dame or Giannis’ status. It’s been an incredily disappointing season so far in terms of overall results, but it’s hard to be mad at the effort level this team has put forth in games 3, 4, and 5. They’re SO short-handed and have left everything on the floor. Do that again on Thursday and we might have a Game 7 back in Milwaukee on Saturday.
