We talked about this on the air yesterday and on the podcast, but I had to make sure we at least posted a video of this kid stealing the show at Packer Family Night.
Like we talked about on the podcast, I can’t imagine how much this kid is buzzin’ right now. Just to get on the field at Lambeau at 12 (13? 14?) years old, have a sold out crowd on hand, under the lights, going through practice drills with your favorite players on your favorite team is a dream in and of itself. Then to NAIL a punt return drill off of a jugs machine, have the whole crowd erupt, and then the entire Packer team surrounds you and celebrates with you?? Absolutely incredible. Live look at this kid walking through the hallways at his middle school this week:
He’s probably going to get to be all-time quarterback for the next month for Nerf games at recess.
My only fear for him is this: Where do you go from here?? I’m sure he’ll be fine and will go on to do MANY great things. But there’s always that trepidation that he’s going to be at a dive bar in Waupun 30 years from now pulling this video up for the 35,000th time to show his night of glory. Again, I don’t think that’s going to happen. He’ll probably lead the Warriors to a State title, play for the Badgers, and get drafted in the 5th round of the 2033 draft. But I do worry about the Uncle Rico/Al Bundy alternative.
PS: When I was this kid’s age in the 90’s, there was a thing in Green Bay called the ‘Packer Experience.’ I think it was adjacent to the Packer Hall of Fame, and it let kids do a 40-yard dash, kick field goals, and do a ‘Lambeau Leap’ into some inflatable stands. Pretty fun! I remember I went up with a buddy of mine one summer and hit 3 field goals in a row. You couldn’t have convinced me on that drive home that I wasn’t the next Chris Jacke. Great hair, nailing kicks of the Green Bay Packers in the Super Bowl. 28 years later I’m an internet blogger with a receding (receded) hairline. Life come at you fast.
