Fan interference was called on this play where a Yankee fan tried to take the ball out of Mookie Betts' glove after an out. pic.twitter.com/iZ6taImncd
I have an official statement and an unofficial statement to make on this incident last night.
*OFFICIAL STATEMENT*: Dumb, dumb, dumb. You should never, EVER, insert yourself into the game like this. Especially a World Series game! You besmirch the integrity of the game, you make yourself look like an asshole, there’s no place for it. Not to mention, how much did you pay for these tickets? $5,000? All of that to get kicked out and probably banned from Yankee Stadium (at least) for the rest of your life. Hope it was worth it you blockheads.
*UNOFFICIAL STATEMENT*: I kind of love this. I know I shouldn’t. But two Yankee fans literally mugging Mookie Betts in a World Series game is kind of hilarious. Like they didn’t just accidentally hit his mitt as they innocently went for the ball in foul territory. One guy held his hand while the other guy held his other hand and then the ball was pried from his glove. Objectively hilarious. Not to mention: This might have turned the whole game around! Yankees were down at this point and on the verge of getting swept! These two goons pull this trick and bingo bango the Yankees hit a grand slam and win in blowout fashion. If they manage to come all the way back from being down 3-0, these fans are going to be canonized for reversing the ju-ju of the series. Reverse Bartman!
Alright I think we covered all of the bases there. Just an insane moment in a World Series that has had more than a few crazy moments.
PS: This is still the most bananas moment I’ve ever seen in a big baseball game. Poor guy had to basically disappear after this. Into the wind. Imagine being a diehard fan of a team, going to a huge game, (kind of) negatively impacting your own team by just following your instincts, having to be escorted out of the stadium to avoid a mob, and never being able to be seen in your city again. Wild.
