While legions of Americans hope to get so lucky as to be that one out of 929 million to achieve perfection in a Powerball lottery drawing, nobody has succeeded in reaching that pinnacle in 46 attempts. But at least some of the “lesser” prizes still come to those who defy the odds in a lottery purchase, and one of those oddities was purchased in Sheboygan Falls.
The Wisconsin Lottery says that a ticket purchased for Monday’s Powerball drawing at the Petro Center in Sheboygan Falls yielded a $50,000 prize, one of two such Wisconsin prizes in that round with the other sold at a BP station in Glendale. Those weren’t the largest in the state, though, as a $1 million ticket was purchased at the Walmart Supercenter in Brown Deer.
The estimated Powerball jackpot for Wednesday, Christmas Eve, is $1.7 billion. That’s the 4th-largest jackpot in Powerball and US lottery history. The full jackpot is only paid out as annuities over time, and if a winner chooses a lump-sum payment instead, that comes out to $781.3 million. As for whether or not Christmas Eve is a lucky opportunity: the Powerball jackpot was won only once on Christmas Eve, back in 2011.
