The low roars and rumbles of fighter jets in the skies overhead will again be heard over much of eastern Wisconsin as the Air National Guard conducts training operations this week and next.
Operations take place within what’s known as the Volk Military Operating Area, which is based out of Camp Douglas in Juneau County and includes Sheboygan and all surrounding counties. Within the area, aircraft flying above 30,000 feet are authorized by the FAA to operate at supersonic speeds, creating sonic booms and roaring noises that can be heard over 5-1/2 miles below.
The exercise, known as 2026 Sentry North will involve F-35s, F-16s and other military aircraft, and will be conducted between 9:30 AM and 4:30 PM daily now through June 12th.
