(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) August 2, 2026 – Scotty Thiel of Sheboygan stayed perfect on the 2026 MMW Industrial Supply Midwest Sprint Car Association season, racking up his second A-main victory of the year in the 25-lap headliner at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis., on Sunday, Aug. 2.
Three-time MSA champion and current point leader Ben Schmidt of Plymouth jumped into the lead in the first turn of the opening lap from the pole, while third starter T.J. Smith of Greenville followed in second, and outside front row starter Tristan Furseth of Cambridge slipped into third.
On lap 3, Furseth powered past Smith to assume the runner-up spot. Two laps later, Schmidt caught the back of the pack and began to slice his way through slower traffic on the undulating track surface.
Utilizing the tricky outside line, Furseth closed in on Schmidt as the leaders hit dense lapped traffic in the middle stages of the race. Scotty Thiel, who started seventh, slid past Smith to take over third on lap 12.
Meanwhile, Furseth shot around Schmidt in turn two on lap 13 to take over the top spot. However, Furseth’s lead was short-lived as the hard-charging Thiel dove low to grab the lead exiting turn four on lap 15.
One lap later, the lone caution flag of the race flew for the stalled car of Ryan Sawusch. When the race resumed, Thiel bolted away while Furseth and Schmidt engaged in an epic duel for second, racing side by side for several laps before Furseth finally surged ahead by lap 20.
After building up a full-straightaway cushion, heavy lapped traffic bogged Thiel down during the closing circuits, which allowed Furseth to close quickly.
Thiel, who won his only other 2026 MSA start at Eagle River Speedway on July 4, stayed steady to wheel the Randy Sippel-owned 39s machine to his second A-main victory of the year and 17th career MSA triumph.
Furseth finished an MSA career-best second, Schmidt wound up third, eighth starter Tyler Davis of Franklin placed fourth and Smith rounded out the top five.
“The track had a lot of character tonight,” Thiel said. “It got a little treacherous for me at the end. I searched around a lot and found something where I could make up a lot of speed on the top in [turns] 1 and 2. It’s fun racing for [car owner] Randy [Sippel]. He always gives me a good piece.”
T.J. Smith was the fastest overall qualifier in the 23-car field with a lap of 14.176 seconds on the historic third-mile clay oval.
The MMW Industrial Supply Midwest Sprint Car Association returns to action on Saturday, Aug. 8, for kids coin and candy drop, coloring contest, and glow stick giveaway night at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis.
Pit gates open at 3 p.m. Spectator gates open at 4:30 p.m. with hot laps at 5:30 p.m. and racing at 6 p.m.
