A 40-year-old Fond du Lac man with two open felony cases will have more added to his list after taking authorities on a high-speed chase, followed by hiding for hours in a corn field before being cuffed and jailed. In the process, two patrol vehicles were damaged and two officers sustained minor injuries.
It began shortly before 2:30 Monday afternoon when a vehicle that had fled police earlier was spotted southbound on Highway 175 just south of Fond du Lac. Lights and sirens triggered a high-speed pursuit for about 3 miles before the driver turned east onto County Road B and then headed north on K, eventually crossing a tire deflation device that only slowed, but didn’t stop the driver who continued on county roads until abandoning his still-rolling car in the middle of southbound Highway 151.
The suspect then hid in a cornfield, evading K-9s and drones until again being spotted around 6:30, but it would take over an hour longer before he was pushed out of the cornfield and taken into the custody.
Besides the original two felony cases and probation that he violated yesterday, he also now faces multiple charges of Fleeing and Eluding, 2nd Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, and Felony Bail Jumping.
