You may not see them, but there’s a good chance that you’ll hear F-35 fighter jets overhead this evening as the 115th Fighter Wing of the Wisconsin Air National Guard puts in some practice. The unit, which is based at Truax Field Air National Guard Base in Madison, more commonly conducts exercises during daylight hours, but is also required to do nighttime training in order to be ready for anything, at any time.
Much of the exercise takes place over Lake Michigan, but the jets need to get there in the first place. Pilots do follow flight paths designed to minimize disruptions here on the ground, but you could still hear a low, sustained rumble up until around 9:15 this evening.
