When I lay my head down on my Buzz Lightyear pillow every night, I thank the good Lord for a few things. My health, my family, Dots pretzels, and Giannis Antetokounmpo. I love this man. If that’s weird for an internet blogger pushing 40 to say about a 28 year-old athlete, so be it.
I’ve said it a million times but I’ll say it again: I will never fully comprehend that the best basketball player on the planet plays for my previously poverty franchise. And not only is he the best player, he’s humble, he’s got the work ethic of Jordan and Kobe, he’s funny, self-deprecating, charitable, he’s everything. If you would have told 10-year old Jonathan that one day the Milwaukee Bucks would win a championship led by a two-time MVP it would have been the second funniest thing he heard in 1994 (Adam Sandler comedy tapes forever #1).
And not only is he a joy to watch night-in-night out, when one of your favorite teams has a generational player like Giannis, it makes everything easier to palette. The Packers are underachieving and the defense wilts like a dandelion in the summer breeze? No problem, we’ve got Giannis to look forward to. The Badgers fired their head coach and are barely bowl eligible? That’s alright, the Bucks are title contenders with Giannis. The Brewers imploded on themselves like a dying star when they traded their 3rd best player and acquired no on at the trade deadline? Giannis, Giannis, Giannis.
So cheers to 28, Giannis! May your Chick-Fil-A be crunchy and your dad jokes extra punny today.
PS: One of my favorite Giannis subplots is his girl, Mariah, attempting to keep him on the rails on his IG Lives:
“I can’t even be a freak now anymore.” LOL.
Double PS: I didn’t see this until after I wrote the blog, Giannis last night (after dropping 34 and 13):
Giannis hilariously talks about what might happen on his birthday tomorrow.
"Maybe a birthday cake, a card, or watch…After I put my kids to bed, you never know what could happen. It might get a little bit freaky."
