The Sheboygan area workforce continues to grow at the same time that unemployment rates show little change, either month-over-month, or year-over-year.
The August numbers from the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development and the US Bureau of Labor Statistics released on Wednesday showed the majority of Metropolitan Areas, Municipalities and Counties in Wisconsin saw decreasing unemployment rates since July but increases since August of 2025.
For the Sheboygan Metropolitan Statistical Area, the workforce increased compared to both last month and August of ‘25. In numbers not seasonally adjusted, 64,000 persons were employed in August, an increase of 100 both by the month and over the year. Unemployment in the area was 2.9% in August, down one-tenth from July and up one-tenth from last year.
The City of Sheboygan saw an August unemployment rate of 3%, down one-tenth from July and equal to last August.
Sheboygan County overall saw a 2.9% unemployment rate in August. That’s down from 3% in July, but up from 2.8% over the year.
