*DISCLAIMER*: This is going to be a more in-depth gambling blog. If you don’t follow basic gambling terminology, it may read like Latin.Â
I saw this floating around Twitter yesterday and I’ve been thinking about it every single hour since I watched it. I even went back and did the research on the last two seasons, and if he’s being honest, he’s correct. He’d be up pretty big betting moneyline underdogs across the board.
Now it does help that last year we saw a 16 seed over a 1 seed, and the year prior a 15 seed (St. Peter’s) went on an insane run where they were heavy moneyline underdogs all the way to the Elite 8. Wins like that allow for 5-6 other games not hitting and you’re still basically at a break even.
But it did get me thinking: Instead of sitting around all night tonight and all morning tomorrow analyzing matchups and going back and forth on picks like I’m flipping a burger on the grill, what if I just did what this guy is doing. All underdogs, all moneyline. Looking at the board, and doing some public school math, I think I’d only need 7 or 8 picks to hit in the first 32 games over Thursday and Friday just to stay close to level. And if two more than that hit?? Probably up between 5 and 7 units. The more I think about it, the more of a fan I am of this strategy for three reasons:
- It takes all thinking out of the equation.
- You get to root for every underdog, and that’s the true joy of March.
- It’s got a nice two-year track record.
Honest to God, I think I’m going to give this a shot on Thursday and see how it goes. If I go 2-14 or something I can always adjust for Friday.
Anyway, god speed to all of your parlays, teasers, picks and brackets starting tomorrow. It’s the best 4 days of the gambling season, don’t take it for granted!
PS: Highlights of the Badgers ending Kentucky’s perfect season because why not:
Double PS: I always try to pick what I think is the best 2 or 3 seed in my bracket pools just to differentiate myself from the field. But I do think we’re headed towards a UConn/Purdue championship game. Watching refs try to officiate Edey in a National Title game is going to be GHASTLY.
