Officials with the Manitowoc County Emergency Services department are explaining why there were no sirens in response to Sunday’s severe weather event.
According to a release issued by the department, sirens are set off at the discretion of the fire chief or a designee. Because the storm came on so quickly on Sunday there wasn’t enough time to reach the Manitowoc Fire Department.
Officials remind you that sirens can only be heard if you are very close to them—and they recommend that you purchase and have a weather radio on and monitor your area during severe weather.
