Numerous advisories now affect most people living in east-central Wisconsin, varying from warnings concerning high heat and humidity, to poor air quality, and also concerning high surf on Lake Michigan.
An Extreme Heat Warning now in effect has been extended to 7 PM Wednesday due to dangerously hot conditions with daytime heat index values up to 106 degrees each day through Wednesday, and with overnight heat index values remaining in the upper 70s.
Those hoping to cool off in the 60º waters of Lake Michigan will have to be satisfied with cooler air lakeside, as the National Weather Service warns of life-threatening waves of 3-5 feet, accompanied by dangerous currents – especially near breakwaters and other structures. That warning to stay out of the water covers both Sheboygan and Ozaukee Counties until 10 PM Monday.

Additionally, an Air Quality Alert has been issued until 11 PM today with expectations that low-level ozone concentrations will reach the “orange” alert level…meaning hazardous conditions for those sensitive to air quality.
The oppressive conditions are expected to last at least through mid-week, and could extend into the Independence Day Holiday weekend.
