Sheboygan Police will be gone fishing on Saturday, but they’re not skipping work. The SPD is hosting their Cops and Bobbers event for a group of 7 to 13-year-olds as a way to break the ice between the public and law enforcement and engage with the community.
Lieutenant Andrew Kundinger said it’s all about building relationships, saying that “Fishing is a great pastime and something that brought us, kids and families enjoy doing together, so we’re trying to build relationships; we’re also maybe teaching them more about fishing and hopefully generating that interest in something that families can do together in the future when they’re not with us as well.”
Kundinger said they’ve got a couple school buses ready to go to a secret location. “Any good fisherman will never tell you their best spot, but it is a private location that’s been donated to us and they’ve requested to remain anonymous.”
About 20 officers will volunteer their time with the kids, and Kundinger said this is one event that everyone involved enjoys…cops, kids and parents alike.
