Air quality this morning is unhealthy according to the Wisconsin DNR, with readings mostly between 150 and 175 on monitors along the lakeshore, while Plymouth at 113 was considered “unhealthy for sensitive groups”, and an air quality advisory remains in effect until noon today. There’s optimism that air quality could continue improving for much of this week, but the wildfires responsible for the poor air quality are still burning and shifting air patterns could bring the smoke back in a process that could take weeks to to fully address.

Of more immediate concern is the threat of severe thunderstorms tonight, beginning to our west as supercells before gathering into a squall line. Initial forecasts have that line approaching our area by 7 or 8 PM, bringing the possibility of damaging winds over 60 MPH, hail over golf ball size and possible EF2 or larger tornadoes with a 3 in 5 “enhanced” severe weather potential. The severe potential depends much upon how earlier storms in western Wisconsin develop and any sunshine that follows. Later forecasts should be monitored for any developments, and the National Weather Service said they will update forecasts later this morning or early this afternoon.
