Cross has declared a national blood crisis, and donors are being urged to act immediately to help save lives.
The organization said that blood donations have fallen to a four-year summer low, worsening an already significant shortage of supplies. While all blood types are needed, the situation is especially dire for type-O blood. The Red Cross has now begun limiting distribution of those products to hospitals, as type-O Positive blood has now dropped below a one-day supply. Officials blame the increasing pinch on the usually busy summer schedules, the unusually hot, smoky weather conditions, and the widespread foodborne illness outbreak
The only way to ease the crisis is by increasing donations. You can book an appointment immediately by visiting RedCrossBlood.org, or by calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). Those registering now through July 31st will receive a Fandango Movie Ticket by email, and those donating during August will receive a $20 Amazon Gift Card by email. Details are available at RedCrossBlood.org/July (or /August)respectively.
