Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s officials have updated information related to their investigation into the discovery of skeletal remains and possible criminal involvement that have unfolded over the past several weeks.
An investigation resulting from a stalking case led to the discovery of human skulls and skeletal remains at the home of the alleged stalker, identified as 47-year-old Benjamin C. Larson of Fond du Lac, who was accused of stalking and causing emotional distress to a victim beginning in 2013. A further look into Larson’s residence revealed human skulls and other skeletal remains along with materials suggesting an unusual interest into past, high-profile serial killer cases that were made known to his counselor, a colleague of the victim who was the subject of his obsessions. A forensic anthropologist’s initial physical examination of the recovered evidence determined that many of the remains are likely of ancient Native American origin, however, several of the skeletal remains require ongoing specialized forensic laboratory testing in order to determine their origin.
Larson is being held in the Fond du Lac County Jail awaiting an initial appearance in Fond du Lac County Circuit Court on three counts of Receiving Stolen Property and one count of Felony Bail Jumping. The investigation remains active and ongoing as detectives continue to work with law enforcement and forensic partners regarding evidence recovered in the search of Larson’s property.
