A peaceful Saturday evening was spoiled by the sound of a car hitting a home in rural Fond du Lac County on Saturday evening, and the driver is being sought by authorities.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office got the call at around 8:45 PM Saturday regarding the crash near the intersection of Highways 45 and 67, about 2 miles northeast of Campbellsport. The caller said that they didn’t witness the crash, but they did hear it and called the Sheriff.
A Deputy responding to the scene observed the vehicle and residence, both unoccupied. Efforts to locate the driver of the vehicle were undertaken on the ground with a K9 and from the air with a drone, but were unsuccessful. The homeowner arrived on scene during the investigation and confirmed that no people were home at the time, however a family pet was slightly injured inside the home which sustained an estimated $15,000 damage.
A preliminary investigation shows the vehicle was northbound on Highway 67, failed to negotiate a curve, went left of center, and failed to stop at the stop sign at Highway 45, crossing that highway and striking the adjacent residence. It appears that speed and inattentive driving were factors in the crash.
Authorities believe they know who was driving the vehicle and have contacted relatives, but they said they didn’t know the suspect’s whereabouts.. The incident remains under investigation and a followup will be made in hopes of contacting the driver. The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Campbellsport Police Department, Kewaskum Police Department, the Wisconsin State Patrol, and Campbellsport Fire/EMS.
