Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul wants to see tighter guidelines with the use of automated license plate readers. The state’s top cop was in Milwaukee Tuesday, where he discussed some of the benefits of systems such as Flock cameras. Kaul mentioned how these license plate readers can be used by law enforcement to track down a missing child and other similar situations.
His comments come as Sheboygan’s Police Chief was making his case as to why the City should immediately terminate the contract with Flock Safety. Chief Kurt Zemple also cited the benefits of the technology, but stressed that trust with agency partners was more valuable.
In the end, the Common Council was unanimous in their vote to terminate the contract with Flock Safety. The contract will end December 31st. In the meantime, the City will continue to cover the cameras.
