There should be no shortage of attention to the subject of safety on the roadways, as this week’s calendar hosts several such observances. One is Operation Safe Stop Week, a collaborative campaign by the Wisconsin State Patrol and the Wisconsin School Bus Association.
This week, Wisconsin State Patrol officers are directed to bus stops that have been identified as sites of frequent violations of laws against illegal passing or failure to stop when a school bus has its red lights flashing. Troopers will be looking for those and other dangerous driving habits that can endanger the school-agers the law was meant to protect.
Another official week to observe is Child Passenger Safety Week, being observed now through Saturday. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration advises parents to learn of the four main car seat types and how to choose the right one for your child through the NHTSA Car and Booster seat website.
We also used their locator app to find the nearest free inspection, and that’s done from the Sheboygan Fire Department by appointment only in conjunction with Aurora Advocate Health. You can call the SFD’s non-emergency line at 920-459-3327 to set that up.
