Gamers from this area and beyond have become big fans of a unique source for anything related to their passion, and that source is getting a bit of love from the Sheboygan Area Chamber of Commerce on Saturday. The Game Board on Sheboygan’s downtown 8th Street has been around for 20 years, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony marks that occasion at 11 AM Saturday.
The store’s founding stems back to a search for therapy. Founder Lynn Potyen’s son, Erik, was struggling with a severe speech delay and other neurological disorders, and school staff had begun using game boards to help Erik along. But after those became boring and ineffective, Potyen did her own research and found European style games that emphasize strategy and deep thinking. The difference was significant and worth passing along, and so The Game Board brought those special games to the Sheboygan community with its opening in 2006.
