Wisconsin’s 10th Safe Haven Baby Box is now installed at Manitowoc Fire Station Number 3, near Interstate 43.
The climate-controlled box gives mothers who can’t care for a newborn a safe, anonymous way to surrender their baby to emergency responders.
Wisconsin’s Safe Haven law allows mothers to surrender a newborn at a hospital, police station, or emergency medical facility within 30 days of birth. When the law passed in 2001, that limit was just 72 hours.
A similar box in Racine County has been used twice since 2024.
