A 19-year-old Sheboygan man is in jail this morning after his erratic driving prompted a chase that ended in a collision.
The Sheboygan Police Department said that they observed the man making excessive noise while driving erratically near 8th and Indiana Avenue and tried to stop him, but the man fled at high speed, turning north on 14th from Indiana under pursuit for several blocks. Police broke off the chase near 14th and Penn Avenue due to dangerous driving behavior and speeds, but he was spotted again near Superior Avenue by another officer who didn’t chase. That officer saw the driver blow the red light where he struck another vehicle that was eastbound on Superior, and the man was arrested at the scene.
The 73-year-old Sheboygan man who was struck sustained minor injuries that were treated at an area hospital; the suspect driver was also evaluated at a local hospital and subsequently jailed at the Sheboygan County Detention Center on multiple charges.
