A Manitowoc County trial for a man charged in his great-nephew’s death has begun. Timothy Hauschultz is charged with neglecting a child causing death after his 7-year-old great-nephew, Ethan Hauschultz, died back in 2018 after he was ordered to carry a 60-pound log around a home as punishment for not knowing Bible verses.
During opening statements, Manitowoc County District Attorney Jacalyn LaBre told jurors Tuesday that Timothy ordered his son Damian Hauschultz to make sure the punishment happened. Timothy’s attorneys say it was Damian who took the punishment too far by hitting Ethan multiple times and burying him in the snow. Ethan would later die at a hospital.
The trial is expected to last about two weeks.
